Unsworth, GEA Refrigeration UK: Incorporating ammonia reciprocating compressors, the energy-efficient heat pump solution for Robert Wiseman Dairies in Manchester recently won GEA Refrigeration UK Limited an Innovation Prize presented by trade magazine Food Processing.

Kraft Foods US processing facility installs NH3 heat pump to cut energy costs: Kraft Foods reported on the application of an ammonia heat pump to capture the rejected heat and reuse it to provide water heating at its food processing facility in Davenport, Iowa. Kraft Foods outlined the benefits the company measured after the system was implemented.

Choices driving technology change: Nestlé’s refrigeration strategy: Nestlé is more than 90% natural in industrial refrigeration globally and is working together with other members of the Consumer Goods Forum to address the barriers to wide scale adoption of more climate-friendly refrigeration.

New tool to calculate performance of European cold stores: The EU funded ‘Improving Cold Storage Equipment in Europe’ (ICE-E) project has developed and made available a dynamic model that enables end users in Europe to calculate hourly heat load and electricity consumption of their cold stores throughout over a one year period, complementing a previous simple steady state model.

Innovative ammonia technology and new products

GL2012 2nd day presentations: focus on NH3 compressors: During the 10th Gustav Lorentzen conference in Delft, Netherlands centred around compressors, a key part of an efficient refrigeration system using ammonia as a natural refrigerant. The papers presented highlighted some of the most efficient designs to improve reliability and increase efficiency and life time of ammonia compressors.

Chillventa 2012: Latest ammonia products on show: Some 29,000 individuals visited the International Trade Fair for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Heat Pumps Chillventa that took place from 9-11 October 2012 in Nuremberg, Germany. ammonia21.com was on site to report about new developments and products using ammonia refrigerant.

Latest ammonia products on display at IIAR show: Ammonia charge reduction as well as new areas of application were the hot topics at the exhibition floors of the IIAR show in Milwaukee.
