Ammonia technology developed by Star Refrigeration has been highly commended at this week’s 2010 RAC Cooling Industry Awards that highlighted the leading technical innovations and environmental successes driving the heating and cooling sector.
A record 600 people from the refrigeration and air conditioning industry gathered for the 7th RAC Cooling Industry Awards to celebrate the latest in environmentally advanced cooling in London, United Kingdom. Winning companies and projects were presented with the awards in a ceremony that took place on 29 September 2010.

Star Refrigeration has been recognised for its work on natural refrigerants and ammonia (NH3) technology under different award categories and more specifically for its:
More natural refrigerant awarded initiatives
The award ceremony also distinguished many more eye-catching projects on natural refrigerants. Among them were Johnson Controls’ conversion of a shipping ‘supertrawler’ from R22 to a R134a/CO2 cascade system, which won the new category of ‘International Achievement of the Year’.
The hydrocarbon-based refrigeration technology that UK food retailer John Lewis Partnership has pledged to introduce in every new and major refitted Waitrose store was an award winner in an impressive 2 out of 10 award categories, while Rathbones bakery was presented with the ‘Small End User of the Year’ for the installation of a hydrocarbon cooling system.
Finally, WR Refrigeration and Morrisons were presented with the ‘Environmental Collaboration of the Year’ Award for setting up the ‘National CO2 Refrigeration Training Academy’, while WR Refrigeration was provided with the ‘Training Initiative of the Year’ for the same initiative. Finally Arctic Circle and Morrisons were given the ‘Refrigeration Innovation of the Year’ Award for their work in developing a portable CO2 plant.

- NH3 system for process cooling and heating in Nestlé’s Halifax food factory: Star Refrigeration and Nestlé were presented with the ‘Industrial & Commercial Project of the Year’ Award for the installation of an ammonia system providing both process cooling and heating in Nestlé’s Halifax food factory, home of the walnut whip.
- High temperature NH3 heat pump: Star Refrigeration was also highly commended under different award categories for its work with the Neatpump high temperature ammonia heat pump and the installation of the world's largest natural district heat pump.
