Air conditioning and refrigeration contractors in Queensland, Australia, have until June 30 to apply for a free mechanical services license, according to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).

After that date “normal application and licence fees will apply,” totaling AU$243.40 (US$167.99) for the full QBCC license, according to the HVAC&R news website.

“Contractors, including companies and their nominees, seeking to perform mechanical services work are encouraged to apply to the QBCCas soon as possible.”

All contractors doing mechanical services plumbing work, “which includes water-side systems such as chillers, cooling towers and condenser-water systems, must hold the mechanical services – plumbing licence.”

HVAC&R specialists can apply for the license under the “alternative qualification pathway provided by transitional arrangements,” according to the website.

Contractors must be members of QCBB to apply for the license. The required technical qualifications for applicants can be found here, and more information about the experience required can be found here.
