Alfa Laval&rsquo;s highly adaptable Arctigo IS for medium to large cold rooms

Alfa Laval brought a whole new dimension of chill to Chillventa 2014 with their new industrial air cooler, the Alfa Laval Arctigo IS, suitable for use with natural refrigerant R744. The Arctigo IS line is designed to keep fresh and frozen goods refrigerated from +10 to -40 °C. The highly adaptable nature of the Arctigo IS means that it can solve various problems and is the perfect blend of Alfa Laval’s creativity, experience and technological know-how.

Alfa Laval’s Arctigo IS range of single discharge air coolers for cooling and freezing applications in medium to large cold rooms has nominal capacities of 3-250kW, and when using CO₂ can achieve design pressures of between 30 and 60 bar.

Versatile range – modular concept with tringular or square tube pitch

The Arctigo’s versatility ensures that it can be used in several different applications that range from keeping produce fresh to freezing meat, fish and poultry. In addition, it can be optimised for use in processing rooms and distribution centres. This is achieved in part due to the flexibility of its fittings, which can accommodate several different positions of the fan-casing and hood.

The Arctigo IS’s flexibility also stems from its ability to be configured with either square or triangular pitched coils. Square pitches are perfect for applications that require keeping the relative humidity high because they enhance the surface area for less defrosting, longer cooling periods, lower air drop pressure and lower fan power consumption. Triangular pitches on the other hand, result in a lower fin temperature and more capacity per m2 coil surface, which allows for a more compact cooler design.

Optimised defrost systems

Alfa Laval Arctigo’s defrost system is also designed to deliver the highest possible efficiency at the lowest operating costs for the user. Each and every defrost system can be optimised for specific applications and conditions with the capacity to even take account of user behaviour. Minute details such as the frequency of door opening and the position of the air coolers can be taken into account during installation to ensure optimal performance.
