Gold Partner MYCOM Mayekawa has added its R717/R744 cooling solution “NewTon 3000” for cold storage refrigeration, which achieves 20% reduction in power consumption compared to conventional HFC refrigerators.

MYCOM’s cooling solution “NewTon 3000” for cold storage refrigeration features an ammonia compressor, a CO2 receiver and a CO2 condenser. The company, having successfully installed a number of units already in Japan, is now looking to introduce its product to Europe, where from it has received high interest.

The system’s new NH3 compressor achieves 20% reduction in power consumption, while Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) shows 33% of CO2 emission reduction compared to systems using HFC-404a. For higher safety the system, it employs indirect method using CO2 as secondary working fluid and limits the amount of NH3 refrigerant to approximately one sixth.

The system features the following characteristics:
  • Screw rotor with new profile: New high-precision profile results in reducing internal gas leakage and realises high efficiency as well as low noise.

  • IPM motor (patent pending): MYCOM employs IPM motor mounting rare-earth permanent magnets inside the rotor, which is more efficient than conventional induction type. Further using inverter enables variable speed design and improves part-load efficiency. This is the first screw compressor with NH3 semi-hermetic IPM motor in the world.

  • Double economizer (patent pending): In a two-stage compressor system, liquid is sub-cooled through intercooler and enhances cooling effects. For better performance an economizer is put on low-stage to increase the super-cooling degree.

  • Flooded evaporator: To make approach temperature small and reinforce the efficiency of heat exchanger, NewTon 3000 employs a NH3 flooded evaporator that improves energy conservation
