The virtual tool gives customers the chance to study the heat exchanger’s construction in detail online.

Finnish manufacturer Vahterus has created a 3D, augmented reality model of its plate-and-shell heat exchanger (PSHE), enabling customers to interact online with the product and get a deeper understanding of its benefits.

Vahterus specializes in making custom plate-and-shell heat exchangers for ammonia (R717) and CO2 (R744) applications.

The new 3D model features a “realistically rendered, true-to-scale 3D model of a fully welded Vahterus Plate & Shell Heat Exchanger,” according to the company’s website. This includes several “hotspots” that enable in-depth information of key features such as welding and plate-pack construction.

The model can be viewed here.

The heat exchanger 3D model is not the only recent digital effort from Vahterus. In September 2020, the company launched a virtual showroom, giving customers 24/7 access to Vahterus’ product lines.

“Building on mixed reality, the [showroom] allows for fully transparent access to our products – from a detailed product introduction to an entire exhibition booth – to be transferred into our customers’ meeting rooms anywhere in the world,” said Marketing Director Hanna Kontu.

“This is a good example of how we strive for continuous renewal in everything we do,” said Vahterus Founder and CEO Mauri Kontu. “We believe it’s a meaningful way to interact with our customers today and in the next decades.”

Vahterus was founded in 1990 in Finland, and the company focuses on refrigeration applications using natural refrigerants, for which PSHEs are a “perfect fit.”
