Like the V200 model, the improved V300 rapid purger is designed to remove non-condensable gases from ammonia refrigeration systems to enhance overall systems efficiency. This is achieved by returning any liquid that has condensed in the purge lines safely back to the outlet of the heat exchanger through the liquid drainer, essentially ‘recycling’ the ammonia refrigerant.

The innovative functionality can handle between 4-20 purge points with the additional RS-485 communication port improving the system’s controls and ease of use.

Three-step purge cycle

Fill and Pre-cool: The cycle begins with high-pressure liquid ammonia feeding through the liquid solenoid, check valve and orifice, causing expansion in the V300’s heat exchanger. A sensor detects the level of ammonia in all the heat exchanger’s tubes and stays in the ‘pre-cool’ mode until the heat exchanger reaches 4.4°C. Once the purger reaches this operating temperature it will transfer to the ‘active’ state.

Separation of non-condensable gasses and refrigerants: This step is where the ‘recycling’ of ammonia occurs. With the purge point active, foul gas and ammonia enters the heat exchanger through a liquid drainer, which condenses immediately, and is returned safely through the differential check valve and orifice back to the liquid makeup side of the heat exchanger.

Release of non-condensable gasses: Now, the gasses start to collect in the vapor vent float as they are separated. Once the volume of these gases in the float chamber rises past the target pressures, the vent and water solenoids will open, releasing them to the water bubbler for safe disposal. This cycle can be set automatically, manually or on timer, with the V300 capable of purging one point at any given time. If the purger cycles through all purge points and no purge conditions are met after two full cycles, the system enters sleep mode for two hours.
