Professor Ciconkov identifies a lack of information and high upfront costs as key barriers, arguing that technologies with NH3 and CO2 are the privilege of rich countries. To change this he suggests the installation of desmonstration units using ammonia and CO2 in developing countires and the introduction of safety standards, based on, for example, the positive experiences in Europe with EN378.
